What is going on with Springville Soccer? How did they do? What did they take in Region? How far did they get in State? What round? I need to know about stuff like that.
This week we ran into a family. I love families! We have actually run into a few families but two really solid ones. The first one lives near the chapel, a mother and her two twin daughters. Her name is Louise and her twin daughters are Annabel… and Lucinda. They are really funny. Lorraine has heard of the church through Donny Osmond, which is fairly normal. I don’t think I have told you but every day we run into someone while we are tracting who will say, “Oh that is the church Donny Osmond goes to.” We have gotten it a lot more especially because Marie Osmond just got married
again. I didn’t know the Osmond’s were that popular, but they love them over here. Probably half the people in my ward that are 50ish joined the church because of the Osmond’s. Back to Lorraine, she has been going through some rough times for the past two years; mainly with partner problems and family problems and money problems. However, she has very strong faith. She really has accepted what we have to say. We have only taught her two lessons but she is set to be baptized on the 12 of June. Isn’t that exciting?
Sue and Sophie are struggling. Sue is so old, so she gets sick a lot and she didn’t make it to church yesterday, so we needed to postpone her baptismal date AGAIN to June 5. I hate it when you teach someone everything and they get so so so close to baptism, but then they just have Satan go ape on them! It is sometimes tough as a missionary because it makes you feel so sad. One of my ZL's told me that not even my faith can change their agency. I wish it could, but it can’t; it’s not Gods way. (Alma 29).
Sophie was doing so well but I have no idea what has been going on with her. She didn’t come to church yesterday so we popped by and she looked horrible. Dark circles around the eyes, etc. We will keep working with her.
I can’t remember if I told you about another family we found on the Military estate. Elder White and I were with a 19 year old member (who is from America) and we were on the estate and we had no idea what to do because we had just been flogged (appointment fell through). We were sitting there thinking and trying to figure out what the spirit wanted us to do, when I heard this whistling. I looked where the whistling came from and the person who was making the whistling noise disappeared. We sat there for five min, and we keep hearing this whistling. I was like, "that’s it! That is the spirit" Just as a joke, it probably wasn’t but I was sick of sitting. So we knocked on the whistler’s door. A woman answered and said, "We don’t believe in this home" (most of the people on the military estate know who we are by now). We started talking and the father comes up with his shirt off and said, "There isn’t a God." But we keep talking to them and so the mom finally invited us in. She then told us she felt like their family had been missing something. She says she has heard a lot about the "Mormons" and wants to have us over for dinner. We set up a date and we went back another time for dinner and she started pelting us with questions. They weren’t easy questions either. But we did really well in following the spirit. When we taught them the restoration lesson the husband came in, again without a shirt and sat and listened to the lesson. Yesterday the family came to church, all except the husband. He has work most Sundays but he is very nice. The family really enjoyed it. It just blows my mind to think that in two weeks they went from not believing in God to really thinking about all of this. We haven’t extended a date yet, but hopefully we will this week. The mom (her name is Jo.) also told us that the reason why we heard whistling was from her girls who came down and told her, "Mom have you seen the Mormon boys out there! They are so good looking!" hahahahaha well I guess I knew my good looks would settle something ;) but don’t worry it isn’t like anything that is scary. Her daughter is too young and there is no worry about it all.
Slough is doing as good as ever. I love you all so so so sos sososos much!
Love,
